With plastic surgery booming both with men and women across the globe, the Westminster Journal interviews Dr Philippe Chout, the renowned and elite-trained plastic surgeon with clinics across Europe; in Switzerland, Paris & London.

WJ: Dr Philippe, where did you train to become a plastic surgeon?

DP: I am a French Plastic Surgeon established in Paris since 1998, in as well London since 2001, and in Geneva. I was trained in France, at the Hospital Pitié Selpétrière, Paris VI University, where I graduated DES in plastic reconstructive and aesthetic surgery in 1996, after a six years residency. During six years, I received and elite training in this broad surgical speciality : plastic surgery. I became then a senior registrar in Maxillo facial and plastic surgery department in West Paris University Hospital, at Ambroise Paré Hospital for two more years. I started my private practice in Plastic and cosmetic Surgery in 1998 in Paris, and then in London in 2001.

WJ: What are your specialties?

DP: I specialise in Rhinoplasty. Facelifts, beautification through facial plans and nose jobs are my specialty areas.

WJ: Is plastic surgery recession-proof?

DP: That depends. Like all markets there are those who operate at the top end and those who operate down below. I am working at the top of my industry where clients have the wherewithal to meet my prices and I see no fall in interest in my professional services because of the uncertain economic climate.

WJ: What makes you different?

DP: I have a real passion for my work. Unlike other medical disciplines, Cosmetic surgery is not just an exact science where all practitioners should deliver an identical result. When it comes to the facial harmony it may be appropriate to find someone who is not just a facelift specialist or a rhinoplasty specialist, but who would be able to combine harmoniously all the facial cosmetic surgery procedures. The cosmetic surgeon you will choose, as well as having expertise gained in medical science and surgery, must have good taste and an intimate knowledge of Beauty, that may not be taught in the University or by scientific societies... I have been lucky enough to receive a special teaching directly from talented cosmetic Surgeons from varied countries, and I really noticed that when it comes to Beauty, Knowledge is good but may not be enough. It is a little bit like music where inspiration and delicateness in execution and talent make a real difference...

WJ: Is London a good place to go for plastic surgery or are there better international locations?

DP: There are few better places. Most of the world’s best plastic surgeons visit London to perform. Along with my other centres of excellence in Europe – Geneva and Paris – London is right up there and is a growing market attracting the very best in my profession. Anyone who is anyone on the plastic surgery scene has a London clinic.

WJ: Doctor Philippe Chout, many thanks indeed for your time.
